PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
ODOURLESS,
COLOURLESS CRYSTALLINE POWDER.
PHYSICAL DANGERS:
CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes
on heating and
on burning
producing toxic and corrosive gases including phosgene (see ICSC # 0007) and hydrogen chloride (see ICSC # 0163).
The solution in water is a weak acid.
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
TLV: ppm; 10 mg/m3 (as TWA) (ACGIH 1994-1995).
OSHA PEL: TWA 10 mg/m3
NIOSH REL: TWA 10 mg/m3
NIOSH IDLH: 250 mg/m3
|
ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body
by inhalation of its aerosol,
through the skin and
by ingestion.
INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly.
EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance
irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract.

Temperature of decomposition unknown in literature.
Commercial products may contain dioxin which may cause characteristic health effects (chloracne, liver changes).
If the substance is formulated with solvent(s) also consult the card(s) (ICSC) of the solvent(s).
Carrier solvents used in commercial formulations may change physical and toxicological properties.
The recommendations on this card also apply to esters of 2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid.
Esterone 245, Trioxone and Weedone are trade names.
