TYPES OF
HAZARD /
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS / SYMPTOMS      PREVENTION      FIRST AID / FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Not combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.   In case of fire in the surroundings: all extinguishing agents allowed.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE   PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE! IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
Inhalation (See Ingestion). Closed system and ventilation. Fresh air, rest. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
Skin MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness. (See Ingestion.) Protective gloves. Protective clothing. Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
Eyes Redness. Pain. Safety goggles, face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection. First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
Ingestion Abdominal pain. Convulsions. Diarrhoea. Headache. Nausea. Vomiting. Weakness. Delirium. Irregular heart beat. Coma (see Notes). Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating. Rinse mouth. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL PACKAGING & LABELLING

IMPORTANT DATA
Physical State; Appearance
ODOURLESS, WHITE OR COLOURLESS CRYSTALS.

Chemical dangers
The substance decomposes on heating producing highly toxic fumes including thallium and sulfur oxides.

Occupational exposure limits
TLV (as Tl): 0.1 mg/m³ (as TWA) (skin) (ACGIH 1999).
MAK: 0.1 mg/m³; I (1999)
MAK as STEL: 1 mg/m³; (1999)

Routes of exposure
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin and by ingestion.

Inhalation risk
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly when dispersed.

Effects of short-term exposure
The substance irritates the eyes and the skin. The substance may cause effects on the nervous system, cardiovascular system and gastrointestinal tract. Exposure may result in hair loss. The effects may be delayed (see Notes). Medical observation is indicated. Exposure may result in death.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
Melting point: 632°C
Density: 6.77 g/cm³
Solubility in water, g/100 ml at 20°C: 4.87
The substance is harmful to aquatic organisms. Avoid release to the environment in circumstances different to normal use.

NOTES
Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated.
The symptoms of acute intoxication do not become manifest until up to several days have passed.
Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available.
Do NOT take working clothes home.
