ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Flammable.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking.
Powder, alcohol-resistant foam, water in large amounts, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 21°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed. Risk of fire and explosion (see Chemical Dangers).
Above 21°C use a closed system, ventilation, and explosion-proof electrical equipment.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE
STRICT HYGIENE!

  • INHALATION
  • Headache. Nausea. Vomiting.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Artificial respiration if indicated.
  • SKIN
  • MAY BE ABSORBED! Aching. Pain. Blisters.
    Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap.
  • EYES
  • Redness. Pain. Blurred vision. Temporary loss of vision. Severe deep burns. Sensitivity to light.
    Face shield.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Abdominal pain. Unconsciousness.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.
Rinse mouth. Give plenty of water to drink. Rest. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
Fireproof. Separated from strong oxidants, food and feedstuffs.
Unbreakable packaging; put breakable packaging into closed unbreakable container. Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
The vapour is heavier than air and may travel along the ground; distant ignition possible.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
On combustion, forms carbon monoxide. Upon heating, toxic fumes are formed. Reacts with carbon tetrachloride, nitric acid, chlorosulphonic acid causing fire and explosion hazard.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV: 2 ppm; 4.8 mg/m3 (STEL): 4 ppm; 9.5 mg/m3 (skin) (ACGIH 1992-1993).
OSHA PEL: TWA 2 ppm (5 mg/m3) skin
    NIOSH REL: TWA 2 ppm (5 mg/m3) ST 4 ppm (10 mg/m3) skin
    NIOSH IDLH: 20 ppm

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour, through the skin and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
Tear drawing. The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. The substance may cause effects on the muscles , resulting in local spasm and aching. Exposure far above OEL may result in liver and kidney effects. The effects may be delayed.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
    PHYSICAL
    PROPERTIES
    Boiling point: 97°C
    Relative density (water = 1): 0.9
    Solubility in water: miscible
Vapour pressure, Pa at 20°C: 2500
    Relative vapour density (air = 1): 2.0
    Relative density of the vapour/air-mixture at 20°C (air = 1): 1.03
    Flash point: 21
    Auto-ignition temperature: 378°C
Explosive limits, vol% in air: 2.5-18.0
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 0.17
    ENVIRONMENTAL
    DATA
This substance may be hazardous to the environment; special attention should be given to water organisms.
    NOTES
Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. The odour warning when the exposure limit value is exceeded is insufficient. Do NOT take working clothes home.
