TYPES OF
HAZARD/
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Explosive.
NO open flames, NO sparks and NO smoking. NO contact with flammable substances. NO contact with hot surfaces. Do NOT contaminate.
Water in large amounts.
EXPLOSION Contamination, heat, shock or friction may cause explosion.
Do NOT expose to friction or shock.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position.
EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST!

  • INHALATION
  • Cough. Sore throat.
Ventilation (not if powder), local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • Redness.
    Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
  • Redness.
    Safety goggles.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Abdominal pain.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
    Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Wet the product with water. Use non-sparking tools to sweep up spilled substance into a container (do not use cellulose-containing materials such as wood or paper). Wash away remainder with plenty of water. Do NOT absorb in saw-dust or other combustible absorbents.
Fireproof. Separated from combustible and reducing substances, acids. Cool.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
WHITE CRYSTALS OR POWDER WITH NO ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
May explosively decompose on shock, friction, or concussion. May explode on heating. On combustion, forms irritating and toxic fumes and gases of benzoic acid (see ICSC # 0103) and carbon monoxide (see ICSC # 0023). The substance decomposes on heating at 103°C. The substance is a strong oxidant and reacts violently with combustible and reducing materials. Reacts violently with many organic and inorganic acids, alcohols and amines causing fire and explosion hazard. Attacks some forms of plastics, rubber or coatings; fires and explosions may result.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
TLV: ppm; 5 mg/m3 (as TWA) (ACGIH 1993-1994).
    PDK not established.
    MAK: ppm; 5 mg/m3; I (1992).
    MAK: class I (1992).
    OSHA PEL: TWA 5 mg/m3
    NIOSH REL: TWA 5 mg/m3
    NIOSH IDLH: 1500 mg/m3

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol.

    INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization.
