FIRE Not combustible. Heating will cause rise in pressure with risk of bursting.
NO contact with water or steam. NO contact with hot surfaces.
Powder, carbon dioxide. NO water.
EXPLOSION Risk of fire and explosion on contact with water or when heated to decomposition.

In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water but NO direct contact with water.
EXPOSURE
STRICT HYGIENE!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
  • INHALATION
  • Cough. Shortness of breath. Sore throat.
    Ventilation. Local exhaust or breathing protection.
    Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • Redness. Skin burns. Pain.
    Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
    First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
  • Redness. Pain. Severe deep burns.
    Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
    First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Abdominal cramps. Burning sensation. Weakness.
    Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
    Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer for medical attention.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Ventilation. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. NEVER direct water jet on liquid (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
    Separated from incompatible materials (see Chemical Dangers). Cool. Dry. Ventilation along the floor.
    Airtight. Unbreakable packaging; put breakable packaging into closed unbreakable container.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
    COLOURLESS FUMING LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
    The vapour is heavier than air.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
    May explode on heating. The substance decomposes on contact with alcohol producing toxic and corrosive fumes (hydrogen bromide). The solution in water is a strong acid, it reacts violently with bases and is corrosive to metals, rubber and wood. Reacts violently with water producing hydrogen gas, causing explosion hazard.

    TLV: 1 ppm; 10 mg/m3 as CEILING (ACGIH 1993-1994).

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
    The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation.

    INHALATION RISK:
    A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
    The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Corrosive on ingestion. Inhalation of the substance may cause lung oedema (see Notes).

    NOTES
    Reacts violently with fire extinguishing agents such as water or foam. The applying occupational exposure limit value should not be exceeded during any part of the working exposure. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. The odour warning when the exposure limit value is exceeded is insufficient. Do NOT take working clothes home. Trona is a trade name.
