FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Not combustible but enhances combustion of other substances. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO contact with flammable substances. NO contact with combustible and reducing materials, strong bases, amines and finely divided metals.
In case of fire in the surroundings: all extinguishing agents allowed.
EXPLOSION Risk of fire and explosion on contact with combustible and reducing materials.

In case of fire: keep cylinder cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE
STRICT HYGIENE!

  • INHALATION
  • Cough. Laboured breathing. Sore throat.
    Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
    Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • ON CONTACT WITH LIQUID: FROSTBITE.
    Cold-insulating gloves. Protective clothing.
    ON FROSTBITE: rinse with plenty of water, do NOT remove clothes. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES

  • Safety goggles or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
    First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION

  • Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.

    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Evacuate danger area! Ventilation. NEVER direct water jet on liquid (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
    Fireproof if in building. Separated from combustible and reducing substances, strong bases, amines and finely divided metals. Cool.

    COLOURLESS GAS OR COMPRESSED LIQUEFIED GAS , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
    The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic fumes (fluorine, fluorine oxides, chlorine, chlorine oxides). The substance is a strong oxidant and reacts violently with combustible and reducing materials, causing fire and explosion hazard. Attacks some forms of plastics, rubber and coatings.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV: 3 ppm; 13 mg/m3 as TWA; 6 ppm; 25 mg/m3 as STEL (ACGIH 1991-1992).
    OSHA PEL: TWA 3 ppm (13.5 mg/m3)
    NIOSH REL: TWA 3 ppm (14 mg/m3) ST 6 ppm (28 mg/m3)
    NIOSH IDLH: 100 ppm


    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
    The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation.

    INHALATION RISK:
    A harmful concentration of this gas in the air will be reached very quickly on loss of containment.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
    The substance irritates the respiratory tract. The liquid may cause frostbite.

    EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
    The substance may have effects on the blood , resulting in forming of methaemoglobin. The substance may cause fluorosis (see Notes).

    Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available. Turn leaking cylinder with the leak up to prevent escape of gas in liquid state.
