TYPES OF
HAZARD/
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Liquid formulations containing organic solvents may be flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 93°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed. Risk of fire and explosion if formulations contain flammable/explosive solvents.
Above 93°C use a closed system, ventilation.

EXPOSURE
PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS! STRICT HYGIENE! AVOID EXPOSURE OF ADOLESCENTS AND CHILDREN!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
  • INHALATION
  • Nausea. Dizziness. Vomiting. Laboured breathing. Sweating. Pupillary constriction, muscle cramp, excessive salivation. Unconsciousness. Convulsions.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • MAY BE ABSORBED! Muscle twiching at first. (further see Inhalation).
    Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
  • Blurred vision.
Face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Abdominal cramps. Diarrhoea. Vomiting (further see Inhalation).
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.
Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
Separated from food and feedstuffs. Keep in a well-ventilated room.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
YELLOW TO BROWN LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating and on burning producing toxic and corrosive fumes including nitrogen oxides, phosphorus oxides, carbon monoxide. Attacks some metals. The substance may decompose after prolonged storage (see Notes).

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
TLV: ppm; 0.25 mg/m3 (as TWA) (skin) (ACGIH 1997).
    MAK not established.
    OSHA PEL: none
NIOSH REL: TWA 0.25 mg/m3 skin
    NIOSH IDLH: No data

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly on spraying.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance may cause effects on the nervous system , resulting in convulsions, respiratory failure. Cholinesterase inhibitor. Exposure far above the OEL may result in death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Cholinesterase inhibitor; cumulative effect is possible: see acute hazards/symptoms.
    PHYSICAL
    PROPERTIES
    Boiling point: 400°C
Decomposes below boiling point at 75°C after 31 days and at 90°C after 7 days°C
    Relative density (water = 1): 1.216 at 15°C
    Solubility in water: miscible
Vapour pressure, Pa at 20°C: 0.013
    Flash point: >93°C c.c.
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: -0.49
    ENVIRONMENTAL
    DATA
The substance is toxic to aquatic organisms. This substance may be hazardous to the environment; special attention should be given to birds. Avoid release to the environment in circumstances different to normal use.
    N O T E S
The substance is stable when stored in glass or polyethylene containers up to 40°C. Explosive limits are unknown in literature, although the substance is combustible. Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available. If the substance is formulated with solvent(s) also consult the card(s) (ICSC) of the solvent(s). Carrier solvents used in commercial formulations may change physical and toxicological properties. Do NOT take working clothes home. Bidrin, Carbicron, Ektafos and Diapadrin are trade names.
