FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Not combustible but enhances combustion of other substances. Many reactions may cause fire or explosion.
NO contact with combustibles or reducing agents. NO contact with hot surfaces.
In case of fire in the surroundings: water in large amounts, water spray.
EXPLOSION Risk of fire and explosion on contact with heat or metal catalysts.

In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Fire fighters should wear complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus.

PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS! AVOID ALL CONTACT!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
  • INHALATION
  • Corrosive. Cough. Dizziness. Headache. Laboured breathing. Nausea. Shortness of breath. Sore throat. Symptoms may be delayed (see Notes).
    Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
    Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • Corrosive. Redness. Skin burns. Pain.
    Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
    First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
  • Corrosive. Redness. Pain. Blurred vision. Severe deep burns.
    Safety goggles or face shield.
    First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Abdominal pain. Nausea. Sore throat. Vomiting. Abdominal distension.
    Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
    Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Give plenty of water to drink. Refer for medical attention.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Ventilation. Wash away spilled liquid with plenty of water. Do NOT absorb in saw-dust or other combustible absorbents (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
    Separated from combustible and reducing substances, strong bases, metals. Cool. Keep in the dark. Store in vented containers. Store only if stabilized.

    COLOURLESS LIQUID.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
    The substance decomposes on warming or under influence of light producing oxygen , which increases fire hazard. The substance is a strong oxidant and reacts violently with combustible and reducing materials causing fire and explosion hazard particularly in the presence of metals. Attacks many organic substances, e.g., textile and paper.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV: 1 ppm; 1.4 mg/m3 (as TWA) (ACGIH 1992-1993).
    OSHA PEL: TWA 1 ppm (1.4 mg/m3)
    NIOSH REL: TWA 1 ppm (1.4 mg/m3)
    NIOSH IDLH: 75 ppm


    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
    The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
    A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
    The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of high concentrations of vapour or mist may cause lung oedema (see Notes). The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

    NOTES
    The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate spray, by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered. Rinse contaminated clothes (fire hazard) with plenty of water. Albone is a trade name.
