EXPOSURE

  • INHALATION
  • Light headedness, dizziness, nausea, inability to concentrate, reduced coordination.
    Local exhaust or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest, and refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • Absorbed through open wounds.

First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again, and refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
  • Redness.
    Safety spectacles.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Vomiting (further see Inhalation).
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth, do NOT induce vomiting, give plenty of water to drink, and refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Sweep spilled substance into containers, carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place (extra personal protection: P1 filter respirator for inert particles).
Separated from strong oxidants, strong bases, lithium, acetone, metallic salts.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
YELLOW TO GREENISH-YELLOW SOLID IN VARIOUS FORMS , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating, producing toxic fumes and gases such as iodine. Reacts violently with strong oxidizers, strong bases, lithium, acetone, and metallic salts.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV: 0.6 ppm; 10 mg/m3 (as TWA) (ACGIH 1992-1993)
    OSHA PEL: none
    NIOSH REL: TWA 0.6 ppm (10 mg/m3)
    NIOSH IDLH: No data

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a nuisance-causing concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes. The substance may cause effects on the central nervous system.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis.
    PHYSICAL
    PROPERTIES
Decomposes below boiling point at 210°C
    Melting point: 119°C
    Relative density (water = 1): 4.0
Solubility in water, g/100 ml at 25°C: 0.01
